Hungover And Tipsy Still

Poetry May 24, 2021

Cool night air fades to morning chill
Some are still up, already wake
We are hungover, tipsy still
Yesternight’s success at stake

We look each other in the eye
And wonder what we saw
The daring looks faded away
Forsaken country now has law

Yesterday’s touch today feels distant
All giggles now a tired smile
A cocktail now a coffee, instant
Quick wits of sudden take a while

Yet I can not quite yet forget
The way you felt and what you said
The drinks we shared, the fifth we pled
Feet come to rest up in my lap

I know we played, I know we teased
I know nothing said was really meant
I know we dared, know we just feast
On mutual encouragement

But I go home and leave behind
A half finished experiment
Came to relax, leave to unwind
From a story without merry end
