We Used To Be Close

Poetry Jun 6, 2021

We once were close, no longer
At times still crave each other
Crave a body, not a lover
Wish we could be stronger

On dark nights we often dial
Get drunk on mutual denial
Of our shared needs, wants, and trials
Are on same page in the same file

We rose from ashes, more than once
Showed loyalty to long-lost bonds
We broke apart, lacking all wants
Void of hunger, moans and grunts

We don’t have really strength inside
To ever truly leave and stride
For new horizons, swallow pride
End up embraced every fortnight
